Aqualyx is a nonsurgical alternative to liposuction. The nonsurgical option in the treatment of localized adiposity. It is a microgelatin solution containing a micro quality of short half-life adipocytotic action molecules, which can modulate and intensify the absorption effect of adipose tissue through external application of radiofrequency and mechanical massage. Aqualyx should be treated only and exclusively through the injection technique called intralipototherapy, with mesotherapy needles from the Lipoinject series and by physicians qualified for the procedure.
Aqualyx is a phosphatidylcholine-free solution in which the main agent that can bring about the destruction of fat cells is a detergent. The detergent dissolves the fat by destroying the cell membrane, thus bringing about the process of adipocytosis.

Who is the best patient for this treatment
The best effects may be obtained in patients with adequate weight, or slightly overweight with local fat accumulation. Especially in the case of women, with localized adiposity in anatomical areas such as hips, abdomen, buttocks, side hips, love handles, culotte de cheval, inner thigh and groin area, the side inside the knee, double chin, etc. that do not disappear despite diet and exercise.

However, the exclusive use of sodium deoxycholate salt by injection resulted in severe tissue necrosis, given the detergent’s lack of selectivity and high aggressiveness.
Based on these concepts, in 2004, Prof. Motolese began work on a new formulation that would act by selectively destroying the fat cell (adipocytolysis) without damaging other tissues.
This study led to the development of a new product that is highly selective for fat cells-Aqualyx®-and a specific injectiontechnique-Intralipototherapy.
Aqualyx® is a microgelatinous solution containing micro amounts of molecules with adipocytotic action (sodium deoxycholate derivatives), with short half-life, capable of modulating and intensifying the effect on adipose tissue of externally applied medium-frequency ultrasound. Aqualyx® should be infiltrated in a selective mode, only and exclusively through the intralipotherapy injection technique, with Lipoinject® series needles and by physicians qualified for the procedure.
Aqualyx® is now the only product in the world registered for injectable treatments for non-surgical reduction of localized adiposity.
AQUALYX – THE HISTOLOGICAL STUDIES
Histological studies carried out ex vivo have shown that the combined action of external medium-frequency ultrasound and Aqualyx® is able to bring about pathognomonic changes of cell damage in adipose tissue such as: cell swelling, cytoplasmic homogenization, cell membrane splitting, and, finally, adipocyte cell lysis
HOW AQUALYX WORKS
Aqualyx® is a phosphatidylcholine-free solution in which the main agent capable of bringing about the destruction of fat cells is a detergent (a depotentiated sodium deoxycholate). The cleanser dissolves fat by emulsification of fat cells. Aqualyx®, therefore, when injected into adipose tissue causes cell lysis with release of cellular debris and triglycerides that are progressively disposed of by the monocyte-macrophage system and drained into the lymphatic system.

WHO IS THE BEST PATIENT FOR THIS TREATMENT?
Anyone with “localized adiposity,” or accumulations of subcutaneous fat tissue that are insensitive to normal metabolic signals (low-calorie diet and physical activity), is an ideal candidate for treatment with ultrasound and Aqualyx®.
Women, for example, can successfully treat unsightly fat pads found in anatomical areas such as the hips, “coulotte de cheval,” inner knee, and inner thigh.
Males , on the other hand, can easily reduceabdominal fat and double chin.
Aqualyx® is not indicated in obese or markedly overweight patients.
Use compression stockings (at least 70 DEN), perform lymphatic drainage one week after the session, and try to follow a dissociated dietary regimen, the structuring of which will be recommended by the physician as appropriate.
The use of ultrasound appears to demonstrate an action further favoring the optimization of the outcome.
Areas of main indication for treatment may be represented by: abdomen, trochanter, inner thighs, hips , inner knees, lipomas, culotte de cheval, pseudo male gynecomastia, double chin, chest folds, upper limbs, eyelid fat bags, ginoid habitus, “buffalo hump.”
